Valtrex is an antiviral medication. It is a prescription drug that is prescribed for the treatment of cold sores caused by herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), and for other viral infections in adults and children under the age of 6. It is also a treatment for shingles (herpes zoster) and chickenpox. It is also used to treat other forms of cold sores, such as cold sores caused by a herpes virus. When you have chickenpox, Valtrex is also used to treat chickenpox in children, and to treat cold sores caused by HSV-1.
Valtrex is used to treat the following cold sores:
